This apple pear walnut crisp is so easy to make and will definitely satisfy your dessert craving! The flavor of the apples and pears, along with the crunchiness of the walnuts, mixed together with all the juices, make for one DELICIOUS treat! Oh, and I can’t forget the delicious crunchy topping that just finishes it off!

Fall and winter are my favorite seasons for making all kinds of sweet treats. For me, fall means apples, pumpkin, and any variation on those themes. Although pears aren’t in season here in North America, I still find pretty tasty fruits shipped from around the globe at my local grocery store, and I take full advantage of that with this recipe. The tart apples and the sweet pears work perfectly with the walnuts in this recipe, creating a fall dessert that everyone always asks for.

Tips
- Slice your apples and pears to roughly the same thickness for even baking.
- Save some time and buy chopped walnuts instead of chopping your own.
- Spoon your flour loosely into your measuring cup and level it with the flat of a knife to avoid using too much.
- Mix the sugar, cinnamon, and fruit first so they can macerate a bit as you make the rest of the crisp.
Frequently Asked Questions
Look for apples that are firm to the touch, heavy, and free of blemishes and bruising. The apples should have their full characteristic color with minimal green remaining, depending on the variety, as well.
Ripe pears should yield to gentle pressure at the neck when ripe. They should also have an aromatic smell. If the pears are hard and have no smell, they’re unripe.
There’s very little difference. In fact, they’re so similar that the names are often used interchangeably. A crisp topping is made with flour, brown sugar, oats, and butter, while a crumble is made in the same way but without oats.
