Tips
- You only need a light coating of nonstick spray for your baking dish. Don’t use so much that it pools at the bottom.
- Wash your blueberries just before you plan to use them. Washing berries in advance can cause them to mold.
- Keep your butter cold when making the crumble topping. Cold butter creates that nice, crumbly texture.

Frequently Asked Questions
Crumbles and crisps are essentially the same thing. The only difference is that crisps have added oats to make the top more crispy and crunchy. Nuts can be used in place of the oats to achieve the same effect.
You can! Frozen fruits can generally be used in place of fresh for pies, cobblers, crisps, and crumbles. The best part is that unless otherwise specified, you don’t even have to defrost them!
You don’t have to peel peaches before baking them. Their thin skins will soften while baking, becoming very tender. Some people say that the skins add a slight bitterness, but in the end it’s all a matter of personal preference.
There are a few things to look for when choosing peaches. First, look for peaches that have a deep, golden color. They shouldn’t be pale. Be aware that the redness of a peach’s skin is due to sun exposure and isn’t an indication of ripeness. You’ll also want to choose peaches that have a sweet smell. Ripe peaches are also round rather than oval-shaped. Finally, ripe peaches should be slightly soft and yield when squeezed gently.
