One bite of this easy Cherry Crisp and you are going to be in love. Easy to make, this is a delicious cherry dessert recipe that will be asked for again and again.

This easy cherry crisp recipe is one of our favorites. It comes together so simply, with only a few ingredients and will taste better than anything you can get from the bakery. It is perfect for get togethers and parties or just because you want a special treat during the week. Your friends and family are going to ask you to make this for every special occasion.

What is Cherry Crisp

Cherry crisp is a delicious cherry filling, in this case made from scratch, that is topped with a rolled oats mixture that becomes crispy. The topping is crispy and buttery and it combines perfectly with the sweet cherry filling.

What is the Difference Between Crisp and Cobbler

While the desserts are similar, there is a difference. A crisp is a dessert, made with fruit, that has a topping made from oats, butter, sugar and flour. Sometimes it will even have nuts. The topping covers the entire dish.

A cobbler is a dessert made with fruit but the topping is more if a biscuit like topping. The topping is usually spoon dropped over the top and creates a bumpy texture and the fruit can be showing between the spoons. I love both types of fruit desserts, but I think this cherry crisp wins, hands down.

How to Make Cherry Crisp Without Cake Mix

This easy cherry crisp is not made with a cake mix, it’s made from scratch and uses oatmeal as the topping. I love that it is made from scratch because I know exactly what is going into it. Also, this recipe is so easy, it only take a few minutes longer to make rather than a mix.

Can I Freeze Cherry Crisp

Absolutely. I love freezing cherry crisp, that way I can have it on hand whenever the craving hits. If you are freezing the entire batch, you will want to use a disposable pan or a pan you know can go in the freezer. The reason I like to use disposable is so that none of my regular pans are out of commission.

You can also freeze it by the piece. Wrap each slice in plastic wrap and then place it in a freezer bag. This gives it double protection and keeps them all together. You will want to reheat the crisp in the oven. This will make the top crispy again and give it the fresh from the oven taste.

Can I Use Canned Cherry Pie Filling

Technically you can although it tastes so much better when you make the filling using this recipe. If you wanted to use a canned cherry pie filling you will need about two cans of filling. If you are using canned pie filling, I recommend adding the cinnamon and nutmeg to the filling because it gives it such an amazing flavor.
