How to Make Apple Pie Wontons
Making these dessert wontons is super straightforward. It only takes a few simple steps and about 30 minutes to make them!
Step 1: Make the Apple Pie Filling
Bring water, cornstarch, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice to a boil over low heat in a medium saucepan, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens. Then, add the chopped apples, stir, and simmer for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove the mixture from the heat and set aside.
Step 2: Make the Cream Cheese Filling
Bead the cream cheese in a medium bowl until fluffy. Then, ad the sugar, vanilla, and lemon juice and beat for another 2 to 3 minutes.
Step 3: Fill the Wrappers
Add 1 teaspoon of cream cheese filling to the center of each wonton wrapper followed by a teaspoon of the apple mixture.
Step 4: Fold and Seal
Dip your fingertips into water and rub them along the edges of the wrapper. Fold up the edges, pinching them together and removing as much air as possible.
Step 5: Fry
Heat oil to 375 degrees in a cast iron skillet or heavy frying pan. Then, place a few wontons at a time into the hot oil and fry until golden brown on both sides. Remove the wontons and place them on a plate lined with paper towels. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and enjoy!

Recipe Tips
- Moisten the edges of the wonton wrappers, don’t drown them.
- Squeeze as much air out of the wrappers as possible when folding them up to ensure they remain closed.
- Don’t crowd your skillet while frying. Too many wontons in the oil will reduce the temperature and lead to soggy wontons.
- A food thermometer is the best way to determine if your oil is hot enough for frying.
Variations
- Follow the filling directions, but use berries instead.
- You can use your favorite diced fruits for the filling.
- Use empanada dough to make apple hand pies.
