Cookies are always a great option for dessert, snacking, or parties. And if they’re easy to make? Well, that’s even better. I often make sugar cookies for parties or just to have around the house because they have such a delicious flavor, and they’re so easy to make. I also make a lot of sugar cookie variations, and one of my favorites is this one. I make small, bite-sized sugar cookies, and I load them up with mini M&Ms for a sweet, chocolaty bite of Heaven that’s always a great choice for any occasion. I’ll keep these on hand at home for snacking or bring them to parties. Of course, I have to bring a double batch because they go so fast!

Mini Sugar Cookies

These mini sugar cookies start with a simple sugar cookie dough made with corn syrup so the cookies bake up super soft and chewy. I fold mini M&Ms into the dough for a blast of chocolate and color in every bite, then I bake the cookies until the edges turn golden. After that, I let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes and transfer them to wire rack to cool completely. That’s all there is to it! The entire recipe takes about 30 minutes from start to finish!

Why You’ll Love This Mini Sugar Cookie Recipe

  • These bite-sized cookies are great for satisfying a sweet tooth craving without the guilt.
  • They’re a classic sugar cookie recipe with the addition of mini M&Ms that add a pop of color.
  • They are a family favorite mini cookie recipe and can be customized with different add-ins, such as nuts, mini chocolate chips, and candy sprinkles.

Mini Sugar Cookie Ingredients

These simple cookies only use basic baking ingredients that you probably have in your kitchen right now. Anything you don’t have can be found in one quick trip to your local grocery store. It’s as easy as pie. I mean, cookies.

  • Karo Syrup: Karo syrup adds sweetness and moisture to the cookie dough, making them super soft and chewy.
  • Butter: A full cup of butter adds rich, buttery flavor to the sugar cookies.
  • Mini M&Ms: Mini M&Ms add rich chocolate flavor and a fun pop of color to the cookies.

See the recipe card at the end of the post for a full list of ingredients and their exact amounts.

How to Make Mini Sugar Cookies

Making these cookies is just as easy as any other sugar cookie recipe. The only extra step is folding the mini M&Ms into the dough. You’ll be in and out of the kitchen in about 30 minutes.

Step 1: Prep

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.

Step 2: Combine the Wet Ingredients

Cream the butter and sugar in large bowl with an electric mixer for about 3 minutes until creamy. Then, add the egg, vanilla, and corn syrup and beat until combined.

Step 3: Combine the Dry Ingredients

Whisk the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.

Step 4: Mix the Dough

Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until combined. Then, fold in the mini M&Ms with a spatula.

Step 5: Bake

Use a teaspoon cookie scoop to scoop out the dough and roll it into balls. Then, place the balls onto the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 9 to 10 minutes until the edges are slightly browned.

Step 6: Cool

Remove the cookies and let them cool on the cookie sheet for 5 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire cooling rack to cool completely. Enjoy!

Recipe Tips

  • Fully soften your butter so it creams well with the other ingredients, avoiding little bits of raw butter in the dough.
  • Fold the mini M&Ms into the batter rather than stirring them. This helps the M&Ms hold their shape and prevents streaking if you break the shells.
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a full 5 minutes to allow carry-over cooking time to bake the cookies to perfection.

Variations

  • Use other mini candies like Reese’s Pieces or chopped candy bars for different cookie flavors.
  • Make these cookies full-size and add chocolate chips and mini M&Ms for even more chocolate flavor.
  • You can use honey or maple syrup in place of Karo Syrup for different cookie dough flavors.
  • Try adding frosting to these cookies, just like their full-size counterparts.

What to Serve with Bite-Sized Sugar Cookies

Serve these cookies with a glass of milk or a cup of coffee or tea just like their full-sized counterparts. You can also add them to a tray with other sweet finger foods, fruits, nuts, and chocolate for a dessert-themed charcuterie board.

Recipe FAQ

What is the secret ingredient to keep cookies soft?

The secret ingredient for soft cookies is light Karo Syrup. It adds moisture, and its thick texture creates cookies that are super soft and chewy.

Can you frost mini sugar cookies?

You sure can! Just like regular sugar cookies, mini sugar cookies can be frosted or iced.

How do you keep sugar cookies moist?

Start by making the dough with light Karo Syrup. This adds moisture and helps keep the cookies soft and chewy. Then, store the cookies in an air-tight container with a slice of fresh white bread. The bread is moist and will help the cookies stay soft.

Can you make sugar cookie dough in advance?

You sure can. Simply make the dough and refrigerate it for up to 24 hours before baking the cookies. Bring the dough to room temperature, then scoop, roll, and bake per the directions.

Can you freeze homemade sugar cookies?

Sugar cookies are freezer-friendly and will last for up to 3 months when stored properly.
