Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Limited Ingredients: It only takes a handful of ingredients to make this dip.
  • So Easy: This semi-homemade dip uses both a pre-made jam and a seasoning blend, making it incredibly easy.
  • Customizable: You can easily adjust this recipe to make it your own.
  • Versatile: This dip is great with your favorite dippers, but it’s also an excellent spread on bagels, bread, or even toast for breakfast or brunch.

Key Ingredients

You’ll find a full list of ingredients along with their exact amounts in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

A wood surface with the seven ingredients on it to make bacon jam dip.
  • Cream Cheese: This is the smooth, creamy base for your dip.
  • Better Than Bacon Jam: This jam is sweet and smoky with tons of bacon flavor.
  • Jalapeno Everything Bagel Seasoning: This blend gives you all the savory, aromatic goodness of bagel seasoning with a kick of heat.

Variations

  • Thinner Dip: For a thinner dip, substitute ⅓ to ½ of the cream cheese with sour cream or full-fat Greek yogurt.
  • Onions: Use yellow or sweet onions for the best caramelized flavor.
  • Mild: Use regular everything bagel seasoning instead of the jalapeno variety.
  • Bacon Jam: Better Than Bacon Jam is my go-to, but you can use any bacon jam variety you can find.
  • Extra Spicy: Use a bacon jam with jalapeno for even more heat.

How to Make Bacon Jam Dip with Caramelized Onions

A pan with caramelized onions in it.

Step 1: Caramelize the onions over medium heat and set aside.

A light pink bowl with cream cheese and bacon jam in it before being mixed together.

Step 2: Beat the cream cheese until smooth. Then, mix in the jam, followed by the onions and seasonings.

A baking sheet with slices of baguette bread on it with olive oil drizzle over the slices.

Step 3: To serve with toast, drizzle thin baguette slices with olive oil and bake until lightly toasted.

A wood surface with white bowls with blue trim with slices of baguettes topped with bacon jam on it and two bowls filled with the bacon jam in the background.

Step 4: Top with the jam and enjoy!

Expert Tips

  • Fully soften your cream cheese for the richest, creamiest texture. Chilled cream cheese often leaves the dip feeling grainy.
  • Keep your heat at medium when cooking the onions. You want them to cook slowly to ensure they caramelize without burning.
  • It’s important to use a yellow or sweet onion in this recipe. Their higher sugar content creates a much better caramelized flavor.
  • This spread is best when served warm or at room temperature, but it’s still tasty when cold!

I made this as a dip for my husband for veggies. He loved it! He asked me to keep the ingredients on hand because this is something he will be asking for often. Easy to make as well.
