I love making all kinds of pastries throughout the year. Although you can make any kind of pastry any time of year, thanks to frozen fruit and jam, I prefer making fruity pastries that are in season. So, this time of year, I’m all about gearing up for peach pastries. I have a neighbor with a VERY productive peach tree, so when those are nice and ripe, I make my peach puff pastry quite a bit to take advantage of all the peaches the neighbors let me pick.

Peach Puff Pastry

This delicious pastry recipe starts with braided puff pastry pinwheels for that classic look. Then, I top them with a sweet, tangy cream cheese filling and a homemade peach filling. I bake the pastries until they’re golden and flaky, then I drizzle them with a simple lemon glaze after they’ve cooled. After that, I just watch everyone fight over them. These are just as delicious as anything you’ll ever find in the bakery, and they’re far fresher. They’re peachy heaven!

Why You’ll Love This Peach Puff Pastry Recipe

  • The peach filling and the creamy cheese center are delicious together, and when nestled in the flaky pastry, it’s a match made in heaven.
  • They are easy to make and are the perfect summer dessert everyone will enjoy.
  • Perfect for parties and potlucks, backyard barbecues, or after-dinner desserts, these puff pastries with cream cheese and fresh peaches are simply irresistible.

Peach Puff Pastry Ingredients

This recipe only uses a few simple, basic ingredients that are probably in your kitchen right now. If you don’t have something, you can find it in just a few minutes at your local grocery store.

  • Fresh Peaches: Fresh peaches give these pastries a bright, sweet, summery flavor.
  • Cinnamon: Cinnamon adds a classic earthy counterpoint to the peaches.
  • Cream Cheese and Egg Yolk: Cream cheese and egg yolk create a cream cheese filling that’s extra creamy and dense.
  • Powdered Sugar and Lemon Juice: Along with a little vanilla, these create a simple, citrusy, sweet glaze for the pastries.

See the recipe card at the end of the post for a full list of ingredients and their exact quantities.

How to Make Peach Puff Pastries

Making these pastries is a super easy process that only takes a few simple steps. Even the braided pastries are really just twisted, so you don’t need any special experience or even very much cooking knowledge at all to make these.

Step 1: Prep

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.

Step 2: Make the Peach Filling

Mix the peaches, sugar, and cinnamon in a medium bowl and set aside.

Step 3: Make the Pinwheels

Cut each thawed puff pastry into 8 strips. Pinch the ends of two strips together to make a long strip. Repeat with all the strips. Take a strip and twist it until it forms a braid. Then, place the end of the strip onto the parchment paper and wrap it around itself to form a pinwheel. Repeat until all the braided strips are used. Pierce the centers of the pinwheels 4 to 5 times with a fork.

Step 4: Make the Cream Cheese Mixture

Beat the cream cheese in a medium bowl until light and fluffy. Then, add the egg yolk, sugar, vanilla, and lemon juice and beat for 2 more minutes.

Step 5: Top

Add a heaping spoonful of cream cheese mixture to the center of each pinwheel, followed by a spoonful of peach filling.

Step 6: Bake

Whisk the egg and water in a small bowl. Brush the pastries with the egg wash and bake for 23 to 25 minutes until golden brown. Set the pastries aside to cool.

Step 7: Make the Glaze

When the pastries have cooled, mix the powdered sugar, lemon juice, and vanilla. Drizzle over each pastry and enjoy!

Recipe Tips

  • Use the freshest, ripest peaches possible for the best flavor.
  • Fully soften your cream cheese and bring the egg yolk to room temperature for a super smooth and creamy filling.
  • Cool the pastries before adding the drizzle or it will slide right off.

Variations

  • Use your favorite berries or fruit for various fruity pastry flavors, such as nectarines, apricots, or plums.
  • Omit the cream cheese for fruity pastries or the peach filling for plain cream cheese pastries.
  • Braid and wrap one strip instead of two to make bite-sized peach pastries.

What to Serve with Peach Puff Pastries

These pastries make a delicious breakfast or afternoon snack with a glass of milk or a cup of coffee or tea. They’re also an excellent addition to a larger breakfast or brunch with all your favorite savory flavors. And, a scoop of vanilla ice cream is delicious with the pastries.

Recipe FAQ

How do you keep puff pastry dessert fresh?

Be sure plain pastries are stored in an airtight container at room temperature to keep moisture out. Filled pastries should be refrigerated in an airtight container for maximum freshness.

Can you bake puff pastry ahead of time?

You can technically bake puff pastry ahead of time, but it tastes best when it’s fresh from the oven. Although baking ahead of time is safe, it won’t have the same flaky texture, so I don’t recommend it.

How to keep puff pastry from getting soggy?

The main culprit for soggy puff pastry in smaller desserts like danishes is either heat that’s too low or improper baking position. Puff pastry needs a moderately high heat to cook up flaky and golden. Heat that’s too low produces a soggy pastry. In addition, placing the pastry on the center rack ensures the radiating heat from the oven filament heats the pastry more efficiently, creating a crispy pastry.

Can you freeze leftover peach pastries?

Pastries are extremely freezer-friendly, and these will last for up to a month in the freezer when stored properly.

How to Store Leftover Peach Pastries

Refrigerate these pastries in an airtight container for up to 3 days. For longer storage, wrap them individually in plastic wrap and freeze for up to a month in an airtight, freezer-safe container or heavy-duty freezer bag. Defrost in the refrigerator overnight.
