Ingredients

  • 12 slices American cheese, or 16 slices of block sharp cheddar, see photo
  • 2 cups shredded lettuce
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted, divided

Ground Beef Mixture

Copycat In N Out Spread

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

Copycat In N Out Spread

  • In a small bowl, mix all ingredients until combined.
  • Cover bowl with a lid or plastic wrap, and place in the fridge until ready to serve.

Ground Beef Mixture

  • In a large skillet, cook ground beef with ½ the diced onion until the meat is no longer pink and the onions are translucent. Drain grease and return to the pan.
  • Sprinkle the seasonings over the meat and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and set aside.
  • In a 9x13 glass baking dish, place with bottom buns in the dish.
  • Next, evenly spread half the sauce over the bottom buns.
  • Place half the slices of cheese over the sauce, followed by spooning the meat mixture over the cheese.
  • Top with the remaining slices of cheese.
  • Spread the remaining spread onto the top buns and place the buns on top of the cheese.
  • Brush 2 tablespoons of melted butter on the top of the buns, and place in the oven for 10 minutes.
  • In a small pan, melt remaining butter and saute the remaining onions until browned and fragrant.
  • Carefully remove the sliders from the oven.
  • Remove the top buns and add the grilled onions and shredded lettuce.
  • Place the top buns back on and enjoy.

Notes

Tips
  • Always drain your beef after cooking it to avoid greasy sliders. Even lean ground beef releases some fat as it cooks.
  • Stir your beef and onions frequently to prevent the onions from burning. The same holds true when sauteing your onions before adding them to the sliders.
  • Use a sharp serrated knife to cut the rolls. This prevents them from getting smashed as you cut them.
  • I recommend a glass baking dish for these sliders. If you use a metal baking dish, especially a dark one, reduce your baking time a bit.
