- Ground Beef: Lean ground beef gives plenty of flavor and meaty texture without at on of grease.
- Seasonings: A simple blend of garlic powder, black pepper, and salt seasons the beef to perfection.
- Mayo and Ketchup: Mayo and ketchup create the creamy base for the rich, sweet, and tangy sauce.
- Apple Cider Vinegar: Apple cider vinegar adds extra tang to the sauce.
Variations
- Ground Beef: Use ground turkey for a low-fat version. You could also use ground Italian sausage or bratwurst for a tasty twist.
- Spicy: Add red pepper flakes for a kick of heat.
- Cheese: American, sharp cheddar, and Swiss all work well in this recipe.
- Apple Cider Vinegar: Use balsamic vinegar instead for a sweeter, more deeply flavored sauce.
How to Make In N Out Sliders

Step 1: Mix the spread ingredients fully and chill them until ready to use.

Step 2: Cook the beef and half the onions until the beef is no longer pink and the onions are translucent. Drain and return to the pan. Add the seasonings and cook for a couple of more minutes. Set aside.

Step 3: Place the bottom buns in a glass baking dish and add half the spread over them. Add half the cheese over the spread.

Step 4: Add the beef, and the remaining cheese. Then, spread the remaining sauce onto the top buns and place them on the sliders.

Step 5: Brush melted butter on the buns and bake until golden. Saute the remaining onions in butter until fragrant as the sliders bake.

Step 6: Remove the slider tops, add the caramelized onions and lettuce, and enjoy.
Expert Tips
- Always drain your beef after cooking it to avoid greasy sliders. Even lean ground beef releases some fat as it cooks.
- Stir your beef and onions frequently to prevent the onions from burning. The same holds true when sauteing your onions before adding them to the sliders.
- Use a sharp serrated knife to cut the rolls. This prevents them from getting smashed as you cut them.
- I recommend a glass baking dish for these sliders. If you use a metal baking dish, especially a dark one, reduce your baking time a bit.
- Can make this recipe with ground beef patties.
In N Out Sliders FAQs
An In N Out slider is a handheld version of their popular Animal style burger featuring ground beef, lettuce, cheese, grilled onions, and of course, that tangy, creamy sauce.
If you don’t drain your beef, you’ll end up with greasy sliders. Even lean ground beef releases some fat as it cooks, so always drain it.
Refrigerate these sliders for up to 3 days in an airtight container. Be aware that the longer they sit, the soggier the bread will become.
