These light and crispy homemade beer battered onion rings are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or snack recipe. They are made with tempura, beer, and seasonings and are fried to golden perfection.

Those delicious battered treats are sweet and zingy, and the tasty, crispy coating makes a wonderful counterpoint to the soft, tender onions on the inside. MmmMMMM. You just can’t beat it! Whenever we go out to eat, I order onion rings. If I’m at a fair, I get onion rings if possible. If onion rings are available, I’m definitely getting them. With this recipe, I have onion rings available whenever I want them, and you will, too.

These delicious onion rings start with sliced onions that are separated into rings. Sweet onions are the best, but you can actually change up the flavor if you want to try different kinds of onions. From there, I coat the onion rings in a delicious beer batter seasoned with paprika, garlic salt, and zesty Slap Ya Mama seasoning. After that, I fry them to golden brown perfection and serve them with dipping sauce, burgers and hot dogs, or both. It’s a delicious recipe that’s so easy to make and so popular with everyone.

Step 2: Dip and Fry

Dip each onion ring into the batter, letting the excess drip off. Then, add a few onion rings at a time to a large saucepan with hot oil. Fry for 4 to 5 minutes until golden brown. Remove the onion rings with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towel. Repeat until all onion rings are fried. Enjoy!

Ingredients
  

  • 2 large onions, peel, slice into half inch slices, separating the rings
  • 1 cup tempura mix
  • ¾ cup beer
  • 2 teaspoon Slap Ya Mama seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions
 

  • Heat oil over medium high heat in a large pot or dutch oven.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk the dry ingredients together then slowly add the beer, stirring until smooth.
  • Dip each onion ring into the batter and gently add a few at a time into the hot oil.
  • Cook until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes, depending on how hot your oil is.
  • Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
