I was a nurse for years, and for most of that time, I was also a single mom. So basically, I had two of the most stressful but rewarding jobs out there. What I didn’t have was a ton of time to cook, no matter how much I loved it. That’s why I was always on the lookout for quick and easy meals that tasted amazing, could feed an army, and wouldn’t take a ton of time. This sausage and potato recipe is one of those. This is one of the first recipes I ever made in my air fryer, and I’ve been making it ever since. I can’t get enough of it, and neither can my family. My guy asks for this recipe all the time, and even the kids will special order it when they’re coming over for a weekend dinner.

Air Fryer Sausage and Potatoes

This recipe starts with smoked sausage of your choice – I usually use something like summer sausage or kielbasa. I combine it with quartered baby potatoes, season it all with some olive oil and Slap Ya Mama seasoning, and air fry it until everything is tender. It’s all ready in a flash, and when it is, I have a delicious main course that’s perfect with a nice vegetable side or served as-is.

Why You’ll Love This Air Fryer Sausage and Potatoes Recipe

  • It’s quick and easy to make and takes about 13-15 minutes from start to finish.
  • It’s a delicious balanced meal with tender potatoes and sausage that can be paired up with your favorite vegetable for a complete meal.
  • The combination of crispy, tender potatoes, and flavorful sausage is simply irresistible.

Air Fryer Sausage and Potatoes Ingredients

This recipe only uses four ingredients, and two of them are olive oil and seasoning. It’s the easiest shopping list for a recipe you’ll ever have.

  • Smoked sausage or kielbasa sausage is a type of sausage that is cured and smoked, with a smoky flavor, and is typically made with pork and spices. Either smoked sausage or kielbasa are delicious to use in this recipe.
  • Baby creamer potatoes are small little round potatoes are are perfect to use in air fryer recipes. No peeling is necessary and can easily be cut into quarters and keep them about the same size.
  • Slap Ya Mama seasoning is a delicious Cajun seasoning made with a zesty blend of spices that adds a bold flavor and kick to this recipe.
  • Olive oil is used to coat the potatoes before air frying and helps to prevent the food from sticking to the air fryer basket.

How to Make Air Fryer Sausage and Potatoes

Making this recipe is just as easy as shopping for the four measly ingredients that it takes to make it. You’ll be in and out of the kitchen in just about 30 minutes!

Step 1: Season the Potatoes and Sausage

Add the potatoes to a large bowl and toss them with oil. Sprinkle them with the Slap Ya Mama seasonings, and toss again. Then, add the sliced sausage and stir.

Step 2: Air Fry

Add the sausage and potatoes to the air fryer basket and cook for 8 minutes at 390 degrees. Give the basket a shake, then cook for another 5 minutes. Enjoy!

Recipe Tips

  • Always preheat your air fryer for even cooking and accurate cooking time.
  • Toss the potatoes in oil and seasoning before adding the sausage, you want the potatoes to hold on to the bulk of the spices.
  • Slice your sausage into pieces that are about the same size as the quarter potatoes for even cooking.

Variations

  • You can use your favorite smoked sausage for this recipe.
  • I like using quartered baby potatoes, but you can really cut up any kind of potato into slices or cubes for this recipe.
  • You can use Italian seasoning in place of the Cajun seasoning if you like.
  • Add carrots, bell pepper, onion, brussels sprouts, or other vegetables if you like.

What to Serve with Sausage and Potatoes

Serve up a plate of sausage and potatoes alongside your favorite vegetables, bread with butter, or garlic bread.

Recipe FAQ

Are sausages healthier in the air fryer?

Air fried sausage is a little healthier than pan fried sausage. Because the sausage is air fried, there’s no extra oil the way there is with pan frying.

How long does sausage take in the air fryer?

Sausage generally takes 8 to 15 minutes to cook in the air fryer depending on the type and size.

How long for potatoes in an air fryer?

Potatoes usually take between 8 to 15 minutes to cook in an air fryer if they’re sliced, cubed, or quartered as the ones in this recipe are.

Do I need to soak potatoes before frying?

Soaking potatoes before frying them won’t change the time it takes for the potatoes to cook. However, it will make them crispier on the outside by removing the excess starch from the surface of the potatoes.

Are sausages good in the air fryer?

Sausages of all kinds are VERY good in the air fryer. Air frying sausage cooks them evenly and gets the outside brown and crispy on all sides.

How to Store and Reheat Leftover Sausage and Potatoes

Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days in an airtight container. For longer storage, you can freeze them for up to 3 months in the freezer in an airtight, freezer-safe container.

To reheat this dish, place the sausage and potatoes into the air fryer and cook for about 5 to 8 minutes at 390, shaking halfway through.
