These delicious mini blueberry pastries are made with flaky, golden puff pastry, which cradles a creamy sweet cream cheese mixture and a burst of fresh blueberry sauce in the center. The flavor combination of the rich creaminess of the cream cheese and the sweetness of the fresh blueberries is simply irresistible. The perfect bite-size treat the whole family will enjoy.

By now, I probably don’t have to tell any of you this, but… I’m a pastry fiend. I have a sweet tooth that can only be satisfied with buttery pastry topped with cream cheese and some kind of fruit. I love it with milk, and I love it with coffee and tea. And, I love it for breakfast, brunch, or an afternoon snack. I just love it. Period. Today, I have a mini blueberry pastry that packs all the flavors of its big brother into a little bite-sized treat that’s as adorable as it is delicious. I make these as a sweet breakfast for me and my guy, brunch when the kids come over, or as a sweet addition to potlucks and parties. It’s always delicious, and I never have leftovers.

Mini Blueberry Pastries

These pastries start with a braided puff pastry pinwheel that I twist and wrap in just a few minutes. Then, I top them with a sweet, tangy cream cheese mixture and homemade blueberry sauce. I bake them until golden, then top them with a bright lemon vanilla glaze. It’s an easy recipe that comes together quickly and has all the hallmark flavors of the summer. Everyone loves the flavor, and I love how I’m not stuck in the kitchen for hours. Everybody wins!

Why You’ll Love This Mini Blueberry Pastry Recipe

  • They have the perfect flavor combination with the rich cream cheese filling and the fresh blueberry sauce.
  • They are bite-size perfection and are ideal for satisfying a sweet tooth craving without the guilt that comes with devouring a full-size pastry or two or three.
  • They’re adorable and look as though they have come straight from the bakery. Surprisingly, they’re super easy to make using store-bought puff pastry dough.
  • They are delicious served for breakfast, brunch, or a midday snack. Anytime is a great time for these mini sweet treats.

Mini Blueberry Pastry Ingredients

The pastry and both fillings are made with simple ingredients that are easily found in your kitchen or local grocery store. It’s a basic recipe with basic ingredients.

  • Puff Pastry Sheets: Braided puff pastry sheets give these little bites their classic pastry base. Any brand will do.
  • Fresh Blueberries: Fresh blueberries and just a handful of other ingredients create the sweet, thick blueberry filling for these pastries.
  • Cream Cheese and Egg Yolk: Cream cheese and egg yolk create a super rich, creamy base for the cream cheese filling.
  • Lemon Juice and Powdered Sugar: These work together to create a bright, sweet, tangy lemon glaze.

See the recipe card at the end of the post for a full list of ingredients and their exact quantities.

How to Make Mini Blueberry Pastries

Making these pastries is incredibly simple. The braided base might seem daunting at first, but it really takes very little effort. After that, the rest of the recipe is simply mixing. There’s nothing to it!

Step 1: Prep

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.

Step 2: Make the Blueberry Filling

Cook the blueberries, sugar, lemon juice, and cornstarch in a medium saucepan over medium heat, stirring continuously until the berries burst and a thick sauce forms.

Step 3: Make the Pinwheels

Cut each pastry sheet into 16 strips. Then, twist each strip until it forms a braided piece. Place the end of a braided strip on the baking sheet and wrap it around itself to form a pinwheel. Repeat with the remaining braided strips.

Step 4: Make the Cream Cheese Filling

Beat the cream cheese in a medium bowl until light and fluffy. Then, add the egg yolk, sugar, vanilla, and lemon juice and beat again for another 2 minutes.

Step 5: Top

Add a heaping spoonful of the cream cheese mixture to the center of each pinwheel, followed by a spoonful of the blueberry filling.

Step 6: Bake

Whisk the egg and water in a small bowl. Then, brush it over the pastries. Bake for 15 to 17 minutes until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool.

Step 7: Make the Glaze

When the pastries are cool, mix the powdered sugar, lemon juice, and vanilla. Drizzle over the cooled pastries and enjoy!

Recipe Tips

  • Fully soften your cream cheese and bring the egg yolk to room temperature for the smoothest, creamiest cheese filling.
  • Stir your blueberry mixture constantly and keep the heat at medium to prevent scorching.
  • Hold the end of the braided strip down with your finger as you wrap the pinwheel to hold it in place.

Variations

  • Use your favorite berries or diced fruits to create different pastry flavors, such as raspberry, blackberry, or strawberry.
  • Use sugar substitute like stevia or monk fruit for a sugar-free version.
  • Omit the blueberry topping for delicious cream cheese pastries.
  • If you don’t like cream cheese, just make blueberry pastries!

What to Serve with Blueberry Pastries

A little semi-sweet or dark chocolate is the perfect pairing for these fruity pastry bites. They also make a great addition to a larger breakfast with your favorite savory options. A scoop of vanilla ice cream alongside a few bite-size pastries is delicious. Finally, enjoy them with a glass of milk or a cup of coffee or tea for a sweet breakfast or afternoon snack.
