This chunky avocado salsa combines the smooth, creamy flavor and texture of avocado with the savory, bright, and spicy flavors of a simple homemade salsa to bring you the ultimate dip.

When it comes to dips, there are two things I love most: a fresh tomato salsa or the rich, creamy flavor and heat of my spicy guacamole.

This chunky avocado salsa combines the best of those worlds into one amazing dip. I took the idea of my creamy avocado salsa and changed it up by making it chunky.

This version features chunks of avocado blended into a simple salsa that utilizes just a few ingredients. It’s so easy to make and it’s absolutely full of flavor. It’s great for any occasion!

Variations

  • Mild: Omit the jalapeno for a mild version of this salsa.
  • Extra Spicy: Leave the jalapeno seeds intact for a much hotter salsa.
  • Onions: White onions work well in place of red onions. You can also use sweet onions for a mellower flavor profile.

How to Make Chunky Avocado Salsa

  • When working with hot peppers, wear food-grade gloves, never touch your face, and wash your hands thoroughly afterward.
  • Use a gentle folding motion to ensure your avocado chunks don’t get smushed.
  • Dice your avocado just before making the salsa to avoid browning.

What’s the difference between guacamole and avocado salsa?

Guacamole is a smooth, avocado-based dip that sometimes includes diced tomatoes. Salsa is a tomato-based sauce or dip that is often chunky. This chunky avocado salsa is the best of both worlds, combining diced avocado with chunky salsa.

Is chunky avocado salsa healthy?

Chunky avocado salsa is very healthy. It’s made with avocado, tomatoes, and onions, so it’s packed with healthy fat, vitamins, fiber, and antioxidants.

How do you keep avocado salsa from turning brown?

To prevent browning, add lime juice to your avocado salsa. The citrus helps prevent the oxidative process that causes the salsa to turn brown. In addition, be sure to place plastic wrap directly over the surface of the salsa when refrigerating it.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 avocados, diced
  • 2 roma tomatoes, diced
  • 1 cup diced red onions
  • ⅓ cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 jalapeno, stem and seeds removed, diced
  • ¼ cup lime juice
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions
 

  • In a medium bowl, add all ingredients and gently stir to combine.
  • Serve with tortilla chips or use to top your favorite chicken, pork, or beef recipes.
