Cheesy Chicken Broccoli Casserole Ingredients

This rich, hearty casserole only uses a few simple ingredients that you can easily find at your local grocery store. It’s a marvel of incredible flavor from incredibly simple ingredients.

  • Boneless skinless chicken breasts, sliced in half lengthwise
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • 8 slices sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Slap Ya Mama Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 4 ounce diced green chilies
  • 10.75 ounce cream of chicken soup
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 package dry chicken stuffing mix (I used Stove Top®)
  • ¾ cup melted butter
  • 12 ounce broccoli florets

How to Make Chicken Swiss Cheese Stuffing Casserole

Making this casserole is just about the easiest thing in the world. It’s basically a matter of layering and baking. You’ll be in and out of the kitchen in no time.

Step 1: Prep

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and spray a 3-quart, deep baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.

Step 2: Layer

Place the chicken breast in the bottom of the dish and sprinkle it with all the seasonings. Then, top with sliced Swiss cheese, Top the cheese with broccoli, and then add sharp cheddar.

Step 3: Make the Sauce

Combine the soup, milk, diced green chilies, and diced onions in a medium bowl. Then, pour the mixture into the casserole dish, evenly covering the layered chicken, cheese, and broccoli.

Step 4: Add the Stuffing and Bake

Sprinkle the dry stuffing over the mixture and pour melted butter over the top of the stuffing. Then, cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for another 10 minutes or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees.

Recipe Tips

  • Be sure you spray the entire interior of your casserole dish to ensure that nothing sticks.
  • Mix the creamy sauce ingredients with a whisk to fully combine them. Creamed soup tends to be stubborn when it comes to mixing.
  • Although the chicken will almost certainly be completely cooked by the time the specified baking time is reached, it’s always best to check it with a meat thermometer.

Variations

  • This recipe can be made with chicken thighs if you like.
  • Try using cauliflower in place of broccoli or a mixture of the two.
  • Cream of mushroom soup works well in this dish.
  • Use slices of your favorite cheese for this recipe.

What to Serve with Chicken Swiss Cheese Stuffing Casserole

This is an exceptionally hearty casserole, so I recommend serving it with something simple. A lot of flavor and a lot of food is packed into each scoop, so you don’t want to add a lot of other heavy dishes to the place. My favorite pairings are:

  • Crusty bread with butter
  • Garlic bread
  • Side salad
